Very craftily, towards the end of Dracula, Radu Jude makes his on-screen director (Adonis Tanța) utter a quote about “doing his best” with this film. The three hours long, admittedly frankensteinan and chaotic film that chronicles the equally troubled heritage of the most well known vampire of all times — and, in a way, the biggest “export” of romanian culture — needs the viewer’s trust and acceptance to properly stand on its feet, even if it is by far Jude’s most unhinged film, rivaling Bad Luck Banging, or Loony Porn.
