Brother has the energy that can be felt in so many gangster movies, when they depict the childhood of their protagonists. Dawid and Michal, in a genre movie, might have grown up into hardened criminals, and the plot of Brother would be in service to explain the origins of their behaviours. The genius of the film is that, while toying with well-estabilished themes, it chooses to break the narrative, not pompously, but entirely in lower case, without the pretense of a message or a social commentary.
